A patient with cirrhosis had to be hospitalized right after the Lunar New Year holidays because of peanuts!
Shortly before the end of work yesterday, an emergency patient was brought in due to gastrointestinal bleeding caused by eating too many peanuts. This patient has been seeing me regularly, and their condition was visibly improving. Unexpectedly, during the New Year celebrations, they couldn't control themselves and ate a few extra peanuts. So, what foods should cirrhosis patients avoid? I’ve summarized it for everyone.
1. Spicy and irritating foods: Generally, cirrhosis patients should avoid chili peppers, raw garlic, and other stimulating foods. These foods can irritate the patient's liver, potentially leading to gastrointestinal bleeding.
2. Greasy Foods: Patients with cirrhosis should not consume greasy foods such as fatty meat or fried chicken. Consuming such foods typically increases the burden on the liver and exacerbates the patient's condition.
3. Hard Foods: Patients with cirrhosis generally should avoid hard foods like walnuts or pine nuts. These foods can easily injure the esophageal and gastric varices, potentially leading to gastrointestinal bleeding in cirrhosis patients.
4. High-Sugar Foods: Patients with cirrhosis should avoid foods with excessively high sugar content, such as ice cream or rock sugar. These foods place additional strain on the liver and hinder recovery from the condition.
