Talking about this case, I'm quite pleased. My patient had been suffering from paroxysmal atrial fibrillation, frequently experiencing palpitations and heart fluttering. During episodes, he felt severe chest tightness and suffocation. This condition had troubled him for a full eight years without any progress in treatment, which led him to consider seeking traditional Chinese medicine for help.

At that very moment, someone recommended me to him, saying that my diagnosis was quite thorough, so he came to see me. When I examined the patient's tongue, I indeed found many issues—his tongue coating was yellow, with obvious tooth marks, and the blood vessels beneath his tongue appeared dark purple and congested. The patient mentioned that he was under constant stress, always struggled with poor rest, felt mentally tense, and experienced frequent episodes of palpitations and heart flutters, which tortured him badly.

I told him that in Traditional Chinese Medicine terms, his condition involves qi deficiency with blood stasis, as well as phlegm-heat disturbing the heart. We must treat according to the syndrome – for qi deficiency, we tonify qi; for excessive heart fire, we clear heart fire; for phlegm-heat, we clear heat and transform phlegm. In addition to prescribing herbs for replenishing qi and invigorating blood circulation, I also combined Huanglian (Coptis) and Banxia (Pinellia) in his formula – Banxia helps regulate the patient's phlegm-dampness.

After one treatment course, the patient's palpitations, fatigue, chest tightness, and shortness of breath symptoms had significantly improved. Continuing our efforts with the patient's cooperation, his paroxysmal atrial fibrillation didn't recur for a long time. Several follow-up ECGs all showed normal results. Seeing his condition improve made the patient happy, and the happier he became, the better his condition got – creating a virtuous cycle.

This proves the condition isn't difficult to regulate – the key lies in accurate syndrome differentiation and targeted treatment!
